Extension of Pärnu Central Library, 810m² in size, designed and built by YIT Ehitus was completed last week. The cost of the design and construction works was 47.4 million EEK.
“YIT Ehitus completed the construction of Pärnu Central Library that was left unfinished in 2002,” said Toomas Rapp, YIT’s Regional Manager in Western Estonia. “The second construction stage included the design and construction of building volume that was left out of the first construction stage, but also the renovation of the building’s cooling system and the reconstruction sheet-metal-sandwich facade built during the first stage into a glass facade. During the second stage reading rooms for children’s books, music literature and periodicals, a multi-functional auditorium, walking galleries and a cafeteria were built.”
The technical systems of the old library were brought up to date during the reconstruction and the parts of external walls made of sandwich-panels were replaced by aluminium-glass facade. Also a new ramp staircase was built and squares surrounding the library house.
Pärnu Central Library will open its doors for readers on 8th November, 2008.
