Tallinn plans to adopt the Kalamaja plan offered by YIT

BNS 13.01.2009

The Tallinn City Government is planning to adopt the plan for Uus-Kalamaja 10 and surrounding areas prepared by YIT Ehitus, with which the company plans to build approximately 400 new flats in Northern Tallinn, next Wednesday.

YIT Ehitus is planning to build new trade and service buildings, office and residential premises in this 5-hectare area. The draft order of the Tallinn City Government shows that the company is applying for planning permission for eight apartment blocks with commercial premises and four floors above ground, seven apartment blocks with three floors above ground and two production buildings.

The planned area of land is located in the northern part of Tallinn between the Kalamaja cemetery park, an area of wooden buildings with cultural and environmental value and the extension of Kalaranna Street (currently a railway), which has great potential.

The majority of the planned area is under the registered immovable at Uus-Kalamaja 10, which until now had been closed and mainly in military use. There are a large asphalted square and the ruins of several military buildings and facilities, which are of little value and in relatively bad condition, on the registered immovable.
