We launched our operations in 1991. The company has gone under different names at different stages of its development, such as AS FCM and AS FKSM. In 2001 Finland’s largest construction services group, YIT, obtained a majority share in the company. Merging with the group necessitated another change to the company’s name – so as to harmonise the group’s corporate identity and branding, and in February 2005 we became AS YIT Ehitus. This presented the group with an opportunity to offer services to a geographically much wider spread of clients. We are currently the only large construction company in Estonia whose parent company operates not only in Scandinavia and the Baltic States but also in Russia.
The name YIT is an acronym derived from the historical name of the parent company, Yleinen Insinööritoimisto /General Engineering Bureau — Finnish/, which was founded in 1912. When saying the name, the name is spelt - that each of the three letters is pronounced separately!
Since the sale of the YIT Ehitus’ Latvian subsidiary SIA YIT Celtnieciba to our parent company at the beginning of 2006 we have operated only within Estonia. Our main areas of activity are the development of real estate and the design and construction of buildings and other structures.
We erect residential, business and industrial buildings, environmental protection structures such as treatment plants and landfills, and port structures. We are supported in these activities by our subsidiary OÜ YIT Betoonitööd. In addition to this our services also include design work.
Housing construction represents the majority of our development projects. Business premises and industrial real estate development projects make up a smaller but still historically important part. In the case of residential development, we provide our clients with a complete service – meaning we carry out the entire sales process ourselves as well.
The company has been issued with ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:1999 quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management system standard certificates.
